Zodiac Hours works out the sky on your device. It has no accounts, no advertising and no analytics. This page says exactly what it touches and where anything goes. It covers the Zodiac Hours app for Android, the web app at zodiachours.app/now and this website.
Your location
- The first time it opens, the app asks your phone or browser for permission to use your position. You can decline and type a city instead. After that it reads your position again only when you ask it to. It never tracks you in the background.
- The position is kept on your device (in the app’s local storage) so the hours stay right the next time you open it. You can also type a city instead.
- To turn coordinates into a time zone and a place name, the app sends them to these services, and to nothing else:
- timeapi.io, for the time zone (with Open-Meteo as a fallback);
- BigDataCloud, for the name of the place.
- When you search for a city by name, the text you type goes to Open-Meteo’s geocoding service.
- Sunrise, sunset, the planetary hours, the rising sign, the planets and the Moon are all calculated on your device. None of that leaves it.
Your journal
- Journal entries, including the rising sign recorded with each one, are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded, synced or backed up by us.
- If you uninstall the app or clear its data, the entries are gone.
Alerts and notifications
- On Android, alerts are local notifications that your phone schedules for itself. No server sends them, and nothing about them leaves your device.
- The app asks for notification permission only when you turn alerts on. Your alert choices are stored on your device.
- The web app does not send notifications.
Cookies and storage
- The app keeps its settings, location, journal and alert choices in your device’s local storage.
- On the web, the app’s entry screen sets cookies only if you press Accept: one to remember that you agreed and one to remember which way you entered. Decline, and nothing is stored beyond your current browser session.
- This website does not set cookies. If you press Use my location on the front page, your position is used only in that page, to draw the sky; it is not stored or sent anywhere.
Other connections
- The app loads typefaces from Google Fonts and a map stylesheet from unpkg. As with any web request, those services see your IP address. This website serves its own typefaces and calls no third party.
- The website and the web app are hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs.
- Sharing the app or opening a store or website link happens only when you tap it.
What we never do
- No accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no selling or sharing of personal data.
- Zodiac Hours is not directed at children under 13.
Android permissions
Internet (for the time-zone and place-name lookups above); approximate and precise location (only when you choose to use your position); post notifications, schedule exact alarms and run after restart (only for the alerts you turn on); vibrate (haptic feedback).
